Dear Valentine....
Dear Valentine,
It seems as if I have been too busy to love you as well as I
should. You see, I’ve been so busy loving other people, I haven’t been able to
take the time to spend with you and nourish you and keep you happy. I haven’t
spent the time getting to know you, learning your likes and dislikes, learning
what you need in your life, what your desires are, what makes you completely happy
and at peace. I know loving others is alright, but I put them before you and
that was the wrong thing to do. I was so concerned about making others happy
and showing others how much I appreciate them, I forgot about the most
important person in my life. How could I have done that? How could I have
possibly forgotten you?
Today is your day. And every day after this, I will cherish
you. I will love you. I will take care of you first and foremost, because
without the love I have for you, I will never be able to love anyone else completely.
So let me start by sharing some of the most wonderful things I love about you
so you can recognize them for yourself and remember them.
First of all, let me tell you that you are the most giving and
loving person I know. You would give your last dollar to someone without
hesitation, just so they can have something to eat. You are giving to your
friends, even to your enemies because you don’t like to see anyone without. You
are too generous sometimes to too many people who will take advantage of your
generosity. Not that you should change who you are, because who you are is
perfect. But be mindful of who you takes you for granted. The people who know
you and love you love you for the person you are. The person who loves to make
other people smile and happy. The person who loves to share everything she has.
The person who brings people together in celebration of a birthday, a holiday,
or just a different weekday. I love that about you. I love the love you spread
to other people. The way you say hello to everyone and you create a ripple
effect in smiles. The way you bring a vibrant energy into a room that is dead,
and cause everyone to lighten up. I love that you bring people out of their
boxes and show them something new. I love you.
Second, I admire you. I know you find that hard to believe,
but I really do. You are an amazing woman. An amazing mother. Do you not see
the two beautiful daughters you have? You raised them on your own. One finished
college on her way to her Graduate degree and the other is excelling in school.
You take care of your home. You take care of your kids. And you are single. You
work. You just finished your degree. You didn’t stop, even when you wanted to
give up. You completed it. You spend
time with your friends. You cook. You work out. You write. You keep
your house clean. You don’t complain about taking the trash out yourself or
washing all the dirty clothes, because you know that you have to do it. And
most importantly, you live your life. You have fun. You walked away from a
marriage that was not meant for you and you were so strong to be able to do
that; to take your daughters out of harm’s way and raise them on your own. You
showed your power. And while I know you are having a hard time showing your
power again at times, I still see it in you. I still see how much strength you
have and how far you are willing to go for your family. Build your power and
energy back up, because it is needed now more than ever. Stay positive. And be
proud of yourself, because you have accomplished more than many, whether you
think so or not.
The last one, since I know all women want to hear something positive
about their physical, I will tell you that you are beautiful. You know when I
say that, I mean inside and out, but right now, I am only talking about the
outer appearance, because I just shared with you some of the reasons you are
beautiful on the inside. But you are a beautiful black natural woman. Not many
women can wear their hair short and you do it so well. It is becoming on you.
Your body is perfect. Sure, you aren’t 21 years old anymore, but you have a
sexy thick shape that most women would die for, beautiful legs that look
perfect in stilettos or Vans, and an ass that makes men half your age do a double turn. Your
thighs are strong, firm, smooth. Your eyes share all your secrets, share all
your feelings. They tell so much about you and when you are looking at someone,
it’s like you’re trying to read everything about them. You can tell someone you
love them just with your eyes and you can curse someone out in the same way.
And your smile. I know you don’t like to smile all the time, because after
having braces two times, you still have a little gap in the front, but that
just means you couldn’t be changed and there was no need to change you. Your
smile is beautiful. It radiates a whole room and when you laugh with it, too,
it’s pure happiness. I wish more people laughed as freely and openly as you do.
I wish more people were happy. But when you smile, you bring happiness wherever
you are. So do it more often.
This is my letter to you on this Valentine's Day. Please remember what I’ve
shared with you. Please remember you are the most amazing person in the entire world.
Remember there is no one like you. Remember you are loved. Remember you
are Cherished. Remember you are Perfect. I will always remember that from here
on out, I will not take you for advantage. I will not choose someone else over
you ever again. I will give you my all, because you are deserving of my all.
I should have told you this a long time ago.
I love you.
I love you.
I love you.
You always have been….. always will be…. Yesterday, today,
and forever…. My Valentine….
Love always,
Me
